Grants Pass High School announces new head football coach
The Grants Pass High School (GPHS) athletic department is pleased to announce Matt Kennedy as the new head varsity football coach for the Grants Pass High School Cavemen. Mr. Kennedy brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent 20 years coaching and 17 years in the classroom.
Kennedy, a social studies teacher at GPHS, has been a part of the school community for the past 11 years. Since 2013, he has served in multiple coaching capacities within the Caveman football program, including defensive coordinator, offensive coordinator, and freshman head coach. Prior to his tenure at GPHS, he coached football at another Josephine County high school from 2005 to 2012. In addition to football, Kennedy has also coached track and girls’ basketball.
Kennedy is eager to build on the rich tradition of Caveman Football and continue fostering a positive culture for student-athletes on and off the field.
"Caveman Football is about more than the game; it’s about developing young people into the best versions of themselves,” Coach Kennedy says. “Our mission is simple: every player who comes through this program will leave better than before. We will cultivate a culture of discipline, respect, humility, and relentless effort, both on and off the field. I am honored to take on this role and continue the tradition of excellence that makes Caveman Football a point of pride for our school and community."
Kennedy will take over the position previously held by Brad Page, who led the program for the past three seasons. Coach Kennedy has already met with players and will begin assembling his coaching staff this spring.
