All-Weather Tracks Coming to Grants Pass School District 7 Middle Schools

We’re excited to share that, for the first time, both North Middle School and South Middle School will receive brand-new all-weather tracks!

These six-lane tracks will provide students with a safe, all-weather space for physical education classes, athletics, and everyday activities. Right now, both schools have older decomposed granite tracks that can become muddy and uneven, especially during the winter months. The new surfaces will make a big difference for student safety and access.

In addition to the new track, North Middle School will also receive an upgrade to its football field, including improved drainage. The current field often becomes muddy and difficult to use during the wet season, and these improvements will help create a more usable space for students year-round.

This upgrade will benefit every student, not just athletes. It also means middle school teams will (eventually) be able to host meets on their own campuses, instead of traveling to Grants Pass High School. That means less time on buses, fewer scheduling challenges, and more time in class.

Construction is expected to begin in May and wrap up around September. There may be some temporary impacts to fall activities depending on construction progress, but we’re excited about what these improvements will mean for students for years to come.

This project is part of a multi-million-dollar investment made possible by the district’s 2023 debt restructuring plan, which freed up funding specifically for long-term facility improvements.

We’re also taking this opportunity to replace the track at Grants Pass High School, which has seen significant use over the years as our district’s only all-weather track.

We can’t wait to see our students and community enjoy these new and updated spaces!
